Producers on the Gregg Allman biopic need to find a new leading man.  Deadline.com says actor William Hurt has dropped out of the project.

The Oscar-winning actor had signed on to portray the rocker in his later years in Midnight Rider.  The production has been wrapped in controversy following the death of a crew member, who was struck by a train on the first day of shooting back in February.  Hurt was on the scene at the time of the accident, which is under investigation.

Production was suspended after the incident, but is reportedly slated to resume in the coming weeks.  And Hurt's departure might not create a major hardship. A source says producers wanted to make some cast changes, including the part of Allman.

All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter is supposedly set to play Gregg as a young man.  It's unclear if that's one of the roles the filmmakers are looking to recast.
